Former New York Metropolis Mayor Invoice de Blasio introduced Friday that he’s working to signify New Yorkers in Washington, setting his sights on the state’s newly redrawn tenth Congressional District.

“Polls present individuals are hurting. They need assistance, they need assistance quick, they usually want leaders who can really get them assist now, and know do it,” de Blasio said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “I do know do it.”

“For years I’ve served the individuals of this metropolis,” he added. “And so immediately I’m declaring my candidacy for Congress.”

De Blasio served two phrases as a widely disliked mayor, beginning in 2014, and unsuccessfully ran for president within the 2020 race.

The tenth District is at the moment held by Rep. Jarrold Nadler (D), who shall be vacating the seat to run within the twelfth District. Nadler announced the transfer Monday, after a new congressional map drawn by the courts was revealed. Three weeks in the past, the New York State Courtroom of Appeals threw out a gerrymandered map that had been drawn by Democrats.

The state Democrats’ gamble ― proposing a map that might give them three extra Home seats ― ended up backfiring spectacularly. The brand new map combines the Higher East Facet and Higher West Facet of Manhattan into one district, which means Nadler and Democratic Rep. Carolyn Maloney shall be pitted in opposition to one another.

The new 10th District covers decrease Manhattan and elements of Brooklyn, together with the Park Slope neighborhood the place de Blasio has lived for years.
